IN MEMORIAM On April 1, 1960 a 27 year old rodeo cowboy named Dean Kinney, moved to Bassett and along with his father took over the reins of Bassett Livestock. He didn't know much about running an auction market but his cunning business sense and hard work took over and cattle receipts grew every year that he owned the barn. He not only sorted the cattle but also started the sales and rode his many wonderful horses in the ring. In those days, all of the cattle were weighed on a beam scale, so 10 head were always weighed for a test. There were never 9 or 11 that got by this cowboy or his horse, and many buyers would swear the horse could count. He continued on in the cattle business after he left the auction market, ordering buying as well as ranching. The auction market continued to be a special part of his life. On Wednesday, February 26 Dean Kinney passed away just short of his 70th birthday. His presence will be sorely missed as this action man received so much valuable advice and help from him through the years. To his loving wife Marilyn, his daughters Deb, Jan, Jude and Dee, his son Jeff and to all of their families, our deepest sympathy from all of us at Bassett Livestock. Please know our thoughts and prayers are with you. Take comfort in knowing that he, Bounce and George are once again rounding up cattle and I know that he's riding "ole Jupe".
